Slime has certainly been very popular with children over the last few years, although I’m not sure their parents would agree. Haha
The truth is, however, that slime is a unique texture and one children don’t often have permission to feel. Sticky fingers and surfaces are often quickly wiped clean.
What are the benefits of slime for children?
There are a surprisingly large number of benefits in children making and playing with slime, so when your child is inspired to make it, think twice!
Here are a few reasons why slime is great –
- Making slime is science!
When children make slime they are required to make a chemical reaction. Liquid changes and turns into somewhat more of a solid substance. Talk about amazing!
Children are also learning a lot of mathematics by measuring and combining ingredients.
2. Slime engages a child’s senses
Slime is very much a tactile substance. Children can almost not resist getting their hands on it and through it, pulling it apart and pushing it back to together.
Slime is incredibly hands on. It’s a great way to engage the sense and develop sensory awareness and development.
3. Slime is an open-ended activity
Slime is a wonderfully open ended activity. That means that children can choose how they interact with it and take it where ever their creativity takes them.
When you children are crying, “We’re bored”, slime is a great activity.
4. Activity that can involve teamwork
Sometimes it can be a challenge to entertain and engage children of various ages. Slime can certainly excite many children with varied interest, capabilities and of different ages.
Making and playing with slime can provide opportunities for cooperation, bonding and more.
Slime is certainly popular amongst children of all ages and whilst many parents might shudder at the idea of it, children can certainly benefit from making and playing with it.
